Transformer Manufacturing Specialist

Full Time, Hourly Position

Purpose

Member of the Operational Excellence team supporting continuous improvement of production processes. Working closely with factories management and manufacturing teams to specify, develop new and modify existing processes, equipment, and tools.
 

Acts as a liaison between product design engineering and production teams, supporting new solution implementation while applying lean manufacturing principles and focusing on manufacturability.
 

Responsibilities

  • Support continuous improvement of production processes.

  • Work closely with factory management and manufacturing teams to specify, develop and modify processes, equipment, and tools.

  • Act as a liaison between product design engineering and production teams, supporting new solution implementation while applying lean manufacturing principles and focusing on manufacturability.

  • Evaluates existing and develops new processes to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.

  • Prepare or update manufacturing operating procedures, graphical work instructions, standard worktables.

  • Evaluates, selects, and deploys proper tools for production.

  • Evaluates, suggests, and implements manufacturing improvement projects by setting objectives, action plans and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Leads and participates in Kaizen events.

  • As part of the team implements capital equipment including evaluation, selection, run-offs, and implementation.

  • Develops time studies in Process times and Cycle times to meet Takt Time.

  • Supports production efforts through troubleshooting manufacturing issues.

  • Ensures compliance with Quality and Efficiency standards.

  • Supports safety and environmental practices.

  • Create training materials and make presentations to manufacturing and administrative team members.

  • Report to management on progress of projects and advise on part machinability, assembly and processing standards and implementation return on investment (R.O.I.)

 

Travel Requirements

  • Limited travel required (10-20%) to collect data, participate in project meetings and prepared designs for factories located in the United States and Canada.

  • Performs other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent job experience.

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in transformer manufacturing including winding and/or active part assembly and/or final assembly and/or business in lieu of degree.

  • Work experience as a supervisor, team leader or an improvement project lead.

  • Ability to develop and provide hands-on training for all employees.

  • Lean Manufacturing experience, Six Sigma Green Belt, or ability to obtain that as part of a training on lean methods.
     

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Define, Measure, Process and Analyze data to Implement and Control Improvements.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and conduct root cause analysis.

  • Solid understanding of electro-mechanical assembly and machining processes and overall transformer business operations.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels internally, customers and suppliers.

  • A knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Techniques and the ability to create standard work is an asset.

  • Excellent communication and people skills.
