Plant Engineer

Full Time, Salary Position

Responsible for the planning and purchase of a wide variety of materials, supplies, and equipment.

Position Summary

The Plant Engineer will lead efforts in designing, implementing, coordinating and managing efficiency of production lines. Will be required to develop plans and designs for manufacturing processes and procedures used on the production floor. Will be required to maximize efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Will have to specify parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification and be familiar with a variety of workflow concepts, practices, and procedures. A wide degree of creativity, innovation and latitude is expected.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge in SPC, Lean, Kaizan (continuous improvement), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and 6 Sigma methodology

  • Strong problem analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Working knowledge of MS Office Products( Project, Word, Excel, Access)

  • Experience with interfacing with customers

  • Self-Initiative

  • Must be willing to occasionally travel within North America
     

Education/Experience

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering field.

  • 3+ years field experience

Working Conditions

  • Will be actively involved in shop floor projects. Must be able to provide hands-on direction to manufacturing personnel on the factory floor. Proper blend of office and factory working conditions are a part of the daily routine.


Equipment Used

  • Must provide direction on a wide variety of equipment and provide some basic training on process changes. Requires understanding of basic machinery.
     

Job Description

  • Work closely with Production Facility, Engineering management, and customers to guide the manufacturing process of optimized cost, performance, while meeting or exceeding quality requirements

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

  • Liaison with design engineers to implement required assembly and test requirements.

  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

  • Works with vendors to select new production equipment, will require calculating ROI, increased throughput and improvements to current quality standards.

  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

  • Applies statistical methods (SPC) to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.

  • Assess product variations/failures/deficiencies for workflow/procedure improvement. Will be required to analyze production and quality trends and produce the data along with several solutions to improving quality and throughput.

  • Designs and develops manufacturing equipment / fixtures as necessary to help improve production flow and throughput

  • Writes ISO procedures to outline processes and product assembly documentation.
