Outbound Transportation Manager

Position Scope:

The Outbound Transportation Manager oversees the project pricing requirements, scheduling, planning and execution of the outbound heavy haul transportation, storage, and delivery of goods to our customers.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate between Operations, Customer Solutions, Field Service and our customers to fully understand and execute all shipping and delivery expectations.

  • Manage customer transportation expectations and lead the efforts when executing an incoming/outgoing shipment for our repair opportunities

Specific Duties

  • Provide appropriate project pricing during the proposal process that adheres to the customer's specification while supporting the General Managers and Business Unit Controllers with understanding the differences between proposed and actual outbound shipping & delivery costs to improve proposal accuracy

  • Ensure carriers, offloading companies, and Delta Star have the proper insurance coverage in place to minimize risk/loss to Delta Star

  • Determine the appropriate outbound transportation providers, within the Delta Star network, to meet customer requirements while minimizing costs for all parties involved

  • Adhere to all state and county regulatory requirements for the coordination of heavy haul transportation

  • Verify permitting requirements for heavy haul transportation and ensure they are properly in place prior to shipment

  • Ensure all customer site conditions, as well as site personnel requirements, are met for offloading responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the site's Production Manager & Supervisors to ensure materials are allocated and available to meet the master schedule and in turn avoid delays in the production/ready to ship process

  • Ensure alignment with the site's completion plans and shipping arrangements to adhere to the customer deadlines

Education & Experience

  • A degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, or other manufacturing related disciplines is preferred

  • 2-5 years of experience in Logistics/Transportation roles, with emphasis in the scope of Heavy Haul

  • Experience working in the utility industry, particularly with transformers, is a strong plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to take initiative to drive improvements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with team members, customers, and internal & external stakeholders

  • Desire to work outside of boundaries, drive change and foster continuous improvement

  • Ability to influence team members who are not within direct reporting lines

  • Strong problem-solving skills to quickly identify challenges and develop solutions

  • Competency with using computer systems, including ERP software, while learning and adapting to new software programs as required

  • Flexibility in adjusting to changing circumstances and the ability to respond effectively to unexpected challenges within transportation

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, self-motivation, and ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines

 

Travel Requirements

Approximately 10%, dependent on business conditions
