Manufacturing Engineer – CNC & Manual Machining

Full Time, Salary Position
 

Position Scope:

Member of the operation excellence team supporting continuous improvement of production processes. Working closely with factories manufacturing teams to specify, develop new and modify existing equipment and tools.

Acts as a liaison between product design engineering and production teams, supporting new solution implementation while applying lean manufacturing principles and focusing on manufacturability.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in CNC Programming, CAD / CAM, and MS Office Software, - MS Project

  • Evaluates and suggests implements & manages multiple manufacturing projects from beginning to end.

  • Evaluates, develops, and implements machining processes on current or future assets.

  • Prepare or update manufacturing instructions, visual work instructions, standard operating procedures.

  • Implements capital equipment including evaluation, selection, run-offs, and implementation.

  • Maintains manufacturing best practices including precision machining, lean manufacturing, and machine tool / tooling technologies.

  • Evaluates non-conforming material and provides proper disposition.

  • Leads special projects including NPD, insourcing - outsourcing, productivity improvements and capital procurement.

  • Improve tooling, gages and fixtures using 3D modeling software.

  • Develops time studies in Process times and Cycle times.

  • Leads machine tool installations throughout the entire process.

  • Supports production efforts through troubleshooting manufacturing issues.

  • Ensures compliance with Quality standards.

  • Supports safety and environmental practices.

  • Prepare or update manufacturing instructions, visual work instructions, standard operating procedures.

  • Occasionally create training materials and make presentations to Manufacturing, Engineering, Marketing, Field Service,

  • Report to management on progress of projects and advice regarding part machinability, processing options and cost

  • Limited travel required (10-20%) to collect data, participate in project meetings and prepared designs for factories located in the United States and Canada.

  • Performs other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

Education, Training & Experience

  • Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree preferred

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in supporting manufacturing operations with a focus on process improvement.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong analytical ability to solve issues such as: manufacturing problems and dimensional or calculation errors.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and conduct root cause analysis.

  • Solid understanding of electro-mechanical assembly and machining processes and overall business operations

  • Fluent using inspection tools, techniques, and their application to engineering requirements.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels internally, customers and suppliers.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Techniques and ability to create standard work.

  • Comprehensive understanding of machine tool operations

  • Competent in advanced engineering drawings including GD&T and tolerance analysis.

  • Excellent communication and people skills.
